We tried it: Ebb medicated drink powders

Hemp Cultivation, Processing & Extraction News

Colorado-based Ebb specializes in nanoemulsion powders that dissolve in food and beverages. Its powders are available in both confectionery and flavorless varieties in dispensaries throughout the state and are easily added to water, tea, coffee, juice, or even a dish of food.

Each cardboard cylinder of Ebb contains 10 milligrams of THC per serving and is sweetened with Stevia. The vibe is very similar to sugar packets, or in my frame of reference, the Crystal Light drink powder packets my parents drank in the ’90s. Frankly, I’m not sure which attracted me more, the niche nostalgia or the nanotech — they were both on point.

For the sake of both sentimentality and contemporary consumption, we auditioned Ebb’s Wildberry and Pink Lemonade powders in a variety of beverages to see just how versatile these unique edibles can be in our day-to-day lives.

First impressions

Ebb’s cylindrical containers are about five inches tall and a bit narrower than a soda can. Each container’s pretty color gradient indicates its flavor: violet and blue for Wilberry, pink and yellow for Pink Lemonade, coral and orange for Orange Mango, and shades of blue for the unflavored Pure.

The straightforward branding is both easy to recognize and to interpret, and even the instructions are accompanied by graphics with an additional suggestion to repurpose the Ebb container into a makeup brush holder — in case you were wondering who the target market for this product may be.

Once the container is opened, the inner design is revealed, along with ten diminutive packages of powder, each about half the size and heft of a sugar packet. When opened, the fine powders within are simply dumped into your food or drink of choice.

Pink Lemonade powder

I auditioned the Pink Lemonade variety of Ebb on one of the most mood-killing days a parent can have: parent/teacher conference day. My autistic son recently quit school (relatable) and an entire team of educators, paraeducators, therapists, and district brass assembled via a cramped Zoom call to discuss what kind of options are available for a first-grade dropout with special needs.

I added one packet of Pink Lemonade Ebb to the cup of green tea I would be sipping throughout the meeting and watched it cleanly dissolve as the care team said their hellos. The tea I used as a base had a bitter, grassy depth that the infused powder sweetened to soft-drink levels.

Flavor-wise, the powder essentially felt like a sugar cube with an aggressive squeeze of lemon. Effects-wise, the onset arrived almost as abruptly as a strong drag off a blunt. During meeting moments that would have otherwise seen me tearing up or choking on my words, I maintained a cool countenance. When the energy between facility and district got a bit brusque, instead of cringing, I leaned into the drama like I was watching a soap opera, which, trust me, is a necessary level of dissociation to have during meetings of this type.

Ebb not only delivered, but it also left my mood light for the rest of the afternoon.

Wildberry powder

Having already tried the powders in flat water, seltzer, and hot tea, I stepped out of my flavor comfort zone by adding the Wildberry Ebb powder to a mildly flavored, herbal energy tea and sipping it while strolling around a mostly deserted mall. My kiddo loves running through the abandoned corridors and hearing his voice echo, and I was content to follow along blithely as he wove between the few other late-capitalist spectators and elderly mall walkers.

Again, the effects were super manageable. I was calm and collected, totally unbothered by any passersby who may have gawked over my son’s stims or hollers. My tolerance is such that 10 milligrams of THC is a very manageable dose, so the effects I felt from one package were gentle and easy-going.

Rather than a swooning high, one package delivered an attitude adjustment, cool complacency, and a smooth body buzz that was appropriate during both moments of relaxation and moments of chasing a child through a mall. Your results may vary.

Bottom line

Ebb powders are easy to use, easy to dose, and thoughtfully formulated for contemporary cannathusiasts. The ingredient lists are relatively simple, with only ten calories per tube and one gram of sugar.

Ebb would be a cool addition to your modern stash box, but after testing it out for myself, I think I’m likely to save the box space for flower jars and keep a few packages of Ebb in my purse from here on out.
