Virtual Speaker Series Featuring Dr. Kent Vrana – Medical Marijuana Research at Penn State

Pennsylvania leads the nation in supporting research on medical marijuana. Dr. Vrana directs one of the eight state-approved Academic Clinical Research Centers (ACRC). In this presentation, he will demystify the pharmacology of marijuana and CBD oil. He will provide insights into the current uses of Cannabis and its extracts and lead a discussion of the pros and cons of this alternative therapeutic approach.

Dr. Kent E. Vrana is the Elliot S. Vesell Professor and Chair of Pharmacology at the Penn State College of Medicine. He received his B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of Iowa, and his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans. His post-doctoral fellowship training was in embryology and molecular biology at the Carnegie Institution of Washington in Baltimore (on the Johns Hopkins University campus). Following faculty positions at the West Virginia University Health Sciences Center and the Wake Forest University School of Medicine, in 2004, Dr. Vrana assumed his leadership position at Penn State.
