Welcome to the 3rd annual Small Farm Education Field Day hosted by Purdue Extension and the Purdue Student Farm. I am Dr. Petrus Langenhoven, vegetable Extension specialist in the department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture and co-director of the Purdue Student Farm, and host of this Small Farm Education Webinar Series. The topic featured in this video include:
High Tunnel CBD Hemp Production presented by Petrus Langenhoven and Mitchell Ankney, Purdue University.
CBD hemp production is typically done in an open field setting or in a glass greenhouse. This spring we decided to establish a CBD hemp crop in a high tunnel at the Purdue Student Farm in West Lafayette. It was a great opportunity for student training, learning about crop management in a high tunnel environment, and it’s a perfect crop to include in your crop rotation schedule. I have always discouraged growers from growing hemp in high tunnels, but I have to say that after this season I might be convinced that this is a great opportunity for smaller farm operators. During this presentation we will discuss our experiences thus far (July 2020) during the growing season.
