You can now mass produce plants in rust, this video covers the meta on farming. This is best way I have found to mass produce plants. Once you have more than enough cloth you can sell excess to bandit camp for an insane amount of scrap. Hard word of building and breeding can lead to very little maintenance, with a high scrap yield.
