G Pen Elite II review: Everything you need to know

Hemp Cultivation, Processing & Extraction News

G Pen is a mid-range vaporizer brand with a product suite that includes a unique variety of concentrate and dry herb vaporizers at relatively affordable price points. Save for a few hyper-specific, decorative glass rigs on the GPen website, its line of vaporizers are not only entirely portable, but all arrive part and parcel with discrete, custom-built hemp carrying cases.

The latest addition to the brand’s arsenal is the G Pen Elite II, an updated rendition of the original Elite, its largest portable dry herb vaporizer. The Elite II features a high resolution LED display, draw-activated temperature control, WiFi connectivity to track usage, and gentle haptic feedback, all of which result in a product that feels more accessible for patients and recreational consumers alike.

Here’s everything you need to know about the GPen Elite II.

What is the G Pen Elite II?

The Elite II is a handheld, dry herb vaporizer with a substantial ceramic chamber, zirconia spiral path, vapor-cooling mouthpiece, comprehensive temperature controls, and a high visibility LED screen that occupies almost a third of the device’s face, displaying both temperature and battery life.

The considerably deep bowl (.25 – .5 grams) is another attractive feature, especially for the established, high-tolerance cannathusiast.

How does it work?

The Elite II has a very straightforward functionality. Three buttons sit at the top end of the device: the power button and both a (+) and (-) button sit in neat, ergonomic alignment.

The heating chamber of the Elite II can be accessed by gently pressing the mouthpiece away from the body of the device. The mouthpiece connects via magnet and pops away from the chamber with minimal pressure. You can then load your ground herb into the chamber using a packing tool stored in the base of the device — take care to not overload or overpack the material. The mouthpiece is then reattached, and the device can be powered on.

To activate the G Pen Elite II, hold the power button for three seconds. Then, adjust the temperature with the (+) and (-) buttons. Once you’ve selected your optimal temperature (the device defaults to 360°F), double-click the power button to begin heating. Haptic feedback, as well as the full-color display, alerts you when the desired temperature is reached.

You can then rely on the draw to keep the chamber at temperature until the material is cashed. The attached picking/packing tool located at the base of the device is a borderline necessity for filling the chamber, as well as cleaning out the spent herbs.

The device deactivates after five minutes of non-use or can be powered off by pressing the power button for three seconds.

How to use the G Pen Elite II

To change the settings of the LED screen brightness, the strength of haptic feedback, display temperature of celsius or fahrenheit, and to access the firmware, you should activate the device, then press the power button five times to access the settings menu.

Inside the settings menu, use the (+) and (-) buttons as up and down navigation, and single-click of the power button to select. Once settings have been adjusted, an exit prompt at the foot of the setting screen will lead you back to the heating interface.

Changing temperatures

The temperature control feature is one of the highlights of this vaporizer — simply load and activate the device, then use the (+) and (-) buttons below the power button to adjust to your optimal temperature.

The temperature range is 200 – 420°F (93 – 221°C).

Charging

At the foot of the device is a USB-C port, and a USB to USB-C charging cable is included in the package. The device unboxes with approximately 75% charge, and a powerless device will reach a full charge in about 1.5 hours.

What’s included?

Each G Pen Elite II comes standard with:

  • One asphalt colored, custom hemp carrying case,
  • A separate — and optional — silicone sleeve designed to improve handling
  • USB to USB-C charging cable
  • Quick start guide
  • One cleaning pick that’s housed in the bottom of the device

Cleaning

To clean the chamber, soak a cotton swab in isopropyl alcohol, squeeze out the excess moisture, and swab the interior of the ceramic chamber as well as the screen on the underside of the mouthpiece. Remove the silicone insert within the mouthpiece and swab the interior walls.

For a super deep clean, remove the screen from the silicone insert, then remove the spiral ceramic air path and soak all three components of the insert — along with the outer zirconia mouthpiece — in isopropyl alcohol. After the soak, remove all parts and rinse thoroughly with water.

Once air-dried, reassemble the insert and mouthpiece and activate a void session at the device’s highest temperature to evaporate any residual alcohol

What’s the appeal?

The G Pen Elite II vaporizer’s primary appeal lies in its super-specific temperature controls, cavernous heating chamber, comfortable weight, and hyper-visible LED control panel.

For $249.95, consumers who desire portable dry herb vaporization but shrug at units that are either too small, blocky, or complex to operate, the Elite II is a relatively affordable option that checks several accessibility boxes.
