A former Black female senior vice president at Connecticut-based Curaleaf Holdings Inc. (CURA:CA) (OTCQX: CURLF) filed an explosive lawsuit on Halloween against the multistate operator, alleging that company leadership forced her out after she complained about various instances of sexual harassment, racist commentary and retaliation after a death threat led to her suffering panic attacks and insomnia.

Khadijah Tribble, who filed the suit against Curaleaf and former CEO Matt Darin in the U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of Massachusetts, claimed that she was terminated suddenly in March 2023 after taking about two weeks off from work to handle her own mental health following a death threat left to her in a voicemail by a Curaleaf vendor.

The termination came, Tribble asserted, after several years’ worth of turmoil for her at the company. Tribble’s lengthy list of grievances includes:

  • Learning that she was making “significantly less” than “white male peers” at the company.
  • Enduring sexual harassment from another company vice president while in the presence of her own subordinates.
  • Hearing Executive Chairman Boris Jordan use “racist” language to describe those with criminal cannabis convictions and immigrants.
  • Receiving a death threat from a vendor, which led directly to serious mental health issues for Tribble.
  • Retaliation by Curaleaf executives against her for reporting the above problems to human resources or other company leaders.

A Curaleaf spokesperson wrote in an emailed statement on Nov. 6 that the company “vehemently denies the allegations in Ms. Tribble’s lawsuit.”

“We are extremely disappointed that she would make such claims. Ms. Tribble has pursued these baseless allegations against the company for some time prior to filing the lawsuit. Curaleaf will not tolerate it and is prepared to fully defend against this attack on its reputation in court,” the spokesperson wrote.
