The endocannabinoid system is responsible for creating homoeostasis or balance in the systems of our body. For instance, if we’re feeling anxious, our nervous system is creating too much Glutamate, which is known as the excitement molecule; when our ECS is functioning properly, it down-ticks glutamate production and upticks GABA production to lower our anxiety. Gaba is the inhibitory molecule that balances the glutamate molecules thus balancing the nervous system. If our system is sending too many t-helper cells to a certain region of our body causing inflammation, our endocannabinoid system regulates the release of the t-helper cells thus reducing inflammation. Cannabidiol, or CBD is received by the endocannabinoid receptors and promotes the release of our Anandamide and 2AG, which are endocannabinoids produced naturally in our body. CBD is now being used by surgeons around the country for inflammation relief prior to surgery and well as pain management after surgery.
