Baking with cannabis is simple, and you can infuse different strains for various effects and tastes. Many people experience a more intense high after ingesting cannabis-infused ingredients rather than smoking marijuana. The feelings you get from edibles last longer, too.

Baking with Cannabis and How To Prepare A Recipe With Infused Ingredients

When you’d like to make a recipe from scratch, you’ll likely want to try infusing cannabis into natural ingredients. The process isn’t complicated, and you can experiment with different strains of marijuana and infused elements to keep recipes fresh.

Cannabis-infused coconut oil becomes a canna oil. It can be used as a butter substitute for baking. The fats in coconut oil help the cannabinoids bind well for higher potency. For vegetarians, cannabis-infused coconut oil is a safe alternative for baking.

Why Use Cannabis-infused Ingredients in Baked Goods?

As the legalization of cannabis products is becoming the norm, cannabis-infused edibles are regarded as a safer alternative to smoking marijuana. Aside from potential health risks from smoke inhalation of THC, the main difference is the amount of time for the effects of cannabis to occur. Remember to adhere to your region’s laws about the possession and use of cannabis.

It’s essential not to ingest too large an amount of cannabis edibles to avoid adverse effects. With edible cannabis cookies, the effect is gradual, not instant. Popular edibles containing cannabis include:

  • Baked goods
  • Gummies
  • Confectionery
  • Chocolate
  • Lozenges
  • Drinks

Baking edibles with cannabis-infused ingredients gives some users therapeutic benefits. The THC in cannabis is a psychoactive component that makes some people feel pleasure. Not everyone experiences the same effect when eating cannabis edibles.

How To Infuse Cannabis in Coconut Oil

You may wonder why you cannot just add marijuana into edibles. The cannabis needs to go through decarboxylation to activate the THC and prepare it for infusion and edibles. Remember that cannabis loses THC percentage amounts during the steps for cannabis infusion with coconut oil.

There is a different amount of THC in the various strains of cannabis. Choose the type of marijuana according to the effects you desire. Our recipe includes cannabis-infused coconut oil. Other possible infused ingredients include cannabutter and cannabis sugar.

Remember, raw cannabis simply placed in oil won’t get the proper results. For the recipe for cannabis cookies with coconut oil, you’ll need:

  • ½ cup coconut oil
  • ⅛ ounce cannabis
  • 1 teaspoon lecithin (optional)

To start decarboxylation, follow these steps:

  1. Place a rack in the middle slot of the oven.
  2. Preheat to 240-degrees Fahrenheit.
  3. Grind cannabis with a hand grinder.
  4. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Spread the ground cannabis evenly on top.
  5. Insert the baking sheet into the oven and turn the mixture after 15 minutes.
  6. Leave in the oven for 40 minutes, or until browned.

Let the mixture reach room temperature. For the next infusion steps, you’ll need:

  • Slow cooker
  • Mason jar
  • Cheesecloth
  • Airtight container

Follow these steps:

  1. Measure and scoop the coconut oil into the mason jar.
  2. Stir in carboxylated cannabis.
  3. Place tin foil over the jar opening and seal it with a lid.
  4. Line the bottom of the slow cooker with a kitchen towel.
  5. Insert the mason jar into the slow cooker.
  6. Add water into the slow cooker until it rises above the oil level in the mason jar.
  7. Set the slow cooker to a low temperature.
  8. Cover with a lid to avoid water evaporation.
  9. Simmer for four hours, up to six hours if needed.

When the infused cannabis coconut oil has simmered long enough, strain it through the cheesecloth into an airtight container. You can reuse the strained cannabis for another less potent batch.

Tips for Infusing Cannabis in Coconut Oil

Don’t rush the process by increasing the temperature, or you risk burning the cannabis or loss of too much THC. Avoid electric grinders as these will turn the cannabis into fine powder. Using only the flower, you’ll get a more potent infusion of cannabis with coconut oil. The lecithin is optional, but it increases the potency of THC in the marijuana-infused coconut oil.

Depending on how you’d like to feel after ingesting edibles, you can choose from the Sativa strain for an energy boost or the Indica strain for relaxation. Choose from popular types, including:

  • White widow: The equal hybrid Sativa and Indica strain have 19% THC.
  • Royal cookies: Delight your taste buds with 20% Sativa and 80% Indica and a THC level of 23%.
  • Purple queen: This calming strain is 75% Indica and 25% Sativa.
  • Green gelato (Royal queen seeds): Made of almost equal parts of Indica and Sativa, this strain has 27% THC.

Have fun trying new strains, and remember not to overeat to avoid strong effects!
