Cannabiz Australia report
The barrister who led a review into Victoria’s medicinal cannabis regulations a decade ago is to provide expert guidance to Montu after joining its special advisory board.
King’s Counsel Dr Ian Freckelton AO will bring what Montu managing director Christopher Strauch described as “instrumental” knowledge to the business as it aims to “enhance the accessibility of medicinal cannabis”.
Montu clarified that the barrister has been appointed in a general advisory capacity only and will not be working on the legal case brought by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).
Freckelton was appointed commissioner for the Victorian Law Reform Commission in 2014, which explored the legalisation of medicinal cannabis.
In 2021, he was made an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for services to the law and the legal profession, including in the fields of medicine, health and technology.
Freckelton has also conducted inquiries into allegations of inappropriate conduct by individuals and organisations.
“We are thrilled to welcome Dr Freckelton to Montu as a special advisor,” Strauch said.
